ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHAM) - Rochester Police say the driver of a $300,000 car is a suspect in a hit and run that turned East Avenue into a wet mess Sunday night. The vehicle took out a fire hydrant; the driver left the scene.

Dispatch audio from 9:30 p.m. said, "Argyle and East Avenue - got a Lamborghini that hit a fire hydrant. Water everywhere." The vehicle sustained rear wheel and other damage and did not appear able to be driven.

The dispatch audio also said, "Looks like your driver got out and must have wanted to walk."

No one was injured, yet because there was property damage - property owned by taxpayers - the driver should not have left the scene. It also appears from dispatch audio that witnesses say the driver was not alone. "It sounds like a male and female left there on foot, south on Argyle towards Park Avenue. No further description" said dispatchers.

The canary yellow vehicle sits in the city's impound lot, alongside lesser models towed for parking and other violations. According to an internet search the Murcielago model is no longer being made, and it's valued at upwards of $350,000. It appears to have a temporary New Jersey plate - a sign it may have recently been purchased there and its owner may not yet have received New York plates.

All over social media, people are posting photos of a similar looking vehicle seen around Rochester, Pittsford and Canandaigua in recent days. It also appears a second Lamborghini may have made an appearance in that area that same night.

More dispatch audio: "So apparently our driver from the yellow Lamborghini was picked up by a friend in a gray Lamborghini who was just seen westbound on Park Avenue five minutes or so ago. So if anybody sees a gray Lamborghini, will you try to stop that please?"

On Monday, crews were out repairing the fire hydrant. Rochester Police are asking anyone with information to call 911. They have not identified the driver and say the case has a lower priority because no one was injured. By e-mail they say the case is an, "active investigation."
