Joseph P. Gaffigan, 79, a resident of Vinita, OK, formerly of Glenview and Springfield, IL, died July 5. Mr. Gaffigan was born Aug. 28, 1924 in Springfield, IL. He was a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and a World War II Veteran, having served as a Navy Radioman Third Class on the submarine U.S.S. Porpoise. A certified public accountant and banker, Mr. Gaffigan’s business career included the presidency of Glenview State Bank in Glenview and Illinois State Bank in Chicago, as well as executive positions with the Wirtz Corporation and American National Bank in Chicago. Upon retirement, he followed an interest in ranching to Oklahoma where he became a cattle rancher. He was a member of the Illinois and Oklahoma certified public accountant societies and the American Angus Association. Survivors include his wife, Joan, nee Ladet, Gaffigan of Vinita, OK; his three daughters, Lynn (Joseph) Royster of Lake Bluff, IL, Karen (Marc) Takahashi of Cupertino, CA and Jacqueline Gaffigan of Baxter Springs, KS; two granddaughters, Grace and Hope; and two brothers, Jacques Gaffigan of Lakewood, CO and Terrance Gaffigan of Springfield, IL. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Grove, OK.
