FAW Trophy Round Five:

Llangefni Town 3
Hakin United 1

HAKIN United put on a valiant showing despite losing at Llangefni Town, as the north Wales outfit struck three times to reach the last eight of the FAW Trophy.

Kristan Bennett’s Vikings travelled to Anglesey on Friday, and it gave his side good preparation before they took on the Welsh Alliance Division One team who are second in their respective table.

The hosts led 1-0 at half time, after Dan Thomas headed home a corner 32 minutes in.

Four minutes after the break and Llangefni doubled the lead, as a mix up in the Hakin defence saw Paul Rowlands pick up the ball 30 yards from goal, and he unleashed a shot that flew past Hakin keeper Adrian Devonald into the top corner.

The Vikings pulled back a goal in the 69th minute, with Ben Fawcett skilfully beating two defenders before the teenage striker coolly nutmegged the keeper.

Hakin then pressed hard for an equaliser, but the tie was settled when the home outfit scored a third in the 77th minute.

Vikings defender Sion Price saw his pass intercepted, and the alert Harry Galeotti ran clear and duly slotted past Devonald.

This Saturday, Hakin United will return to Pembrokeshire League action when they travel to Carew.
