Official: Doctor at El Paso VA clinic shot; Body believed to belong to shooter found

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX) A doctor was shot and another person was found dead at the El Paso VA Health Care System on Tuesday, according to a spokesperson from the office of U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke, D-El Paso.

Spokesperson John Meza said they believe the person who was found dead may be the shooter and may have committed suicide, but they have not confirmed that information.

The condition of the doctor is not known at this time.As previously reported, El Paso police were assisting Fort Bliss with reports of an active shooter at the VA clinic adjacent to William Beaumont Army Medical Center.

Clarence Davis, a spokesperson for WBAMC, said the commander instructed officials to place the medical center on lockdown because of an active shooter at the VA clinic.

A spokesperson for the El Paso Police Department said they are assisting Fort Bliss officials with traffic control.

El Paso Independent School District officials said Bassett Middle School and Travis Elementary were placed on lockdown for athletics and after school activities as a precaution, but that lockdown has been lifted.The El Paso VA Health Care clinic with William Beaumont Army Medical Center will be closed Wednesday. Veterans with appointments will be contacted to reschedule appointments. The Eastside and Las Cruces CBOCs will remain open._____
