MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin men’s hockey team closed out the 2018 portion of their schedule with a weekend sweep of Michigan State 3-0 on Saturday night at the Kohl Center.
Sean Dhooghe found the back of the net in the first period and added a helper on a third-period goal by K’Andre Miller. Seamus Malone closed out the scoring late in the 3rd period with an unassisted empty-net goal.
Daniel Lebedeff posted his first career shutout in the contest with 21 saves in the contest. More than half of those came in a 3rd period flurry from the Spartans.
With the weekend sweep of the Spartans, Wisconsin is now undefeated in six straight games (including ties) and have won three in a row. The win also lifts the Badgers into a first-place tie in the Big Ten standings with Ohio State (16 conference points). Notre Dame is just one point off the pace with 15, Michigan and Minnesota are tied for 4th.
The next action for Wisconsin will come on January 4th when they host the University of Denver Pioneers for a weekend set at the Kohl Center. They’ll also host the USA Development Program Under 18 team for an exhibition contest on Saturday, January 12th before returning to Big Ten play against Notre Dame January 18th and 20th.
