The Top Spring 2019 Trends From Fashion Week

This article is more than 5 years old.

The Spring 2019 runway shows are just wrapping up, so naturally it is time to review all the exciting trends from the latest collections. While these designs may not be on the retail racks for a few more months, you can get ahead of the style curve by prepping for these chic trends now.

Cupcake Couture

Brands like Marc Jacobs and Rodarte weren't afraid to show bold, voluminous looks that resembled wearable confections. A little bit circus performer, a little bit Pretty In Pink, these rose-colored gowns may not be the most practical, but I expect to see them in fashion editorials and worn by the most avant-garde celebs.

Buttercup Yellow

The color of the season is without a doubt yellow; in particular, a soft buttercup yellow that will bring all the sunshine, even on a cloudy day. Will this pretty color take the place of Millennial Pink? Only time will tell, but I think this color trend could have lasting power.

Neon

In other tonal trends, neon is back in full force for Spring 2019. Everyone from Prabal Gurung to Milly was going all-in on bright, saturated colors.

There are two main ways to rock this trend: either pick a single neon color and wear a monochromatic ensemble, or color block with different bright colors. Either way, you'll look fantastic and be totally on trend.

90s Street

The 90s are still heavily influencing fashion, both on the runway and on the streets. Baggy, low-rise pants, skinny sunglasses, crop tops, and bucket hats all made several appearances at New York Fashion Week.

While this fall is all about Clueless-inspired prep style, Spring 2019 will be moving away from that and referencing the 90s hip hop scene.

Crochet

Crochet sweaters, dresses, and skirts were all over the runways, too. What I love about this style is that it is wonderfully suited for spring; you can wear crochet pieces to the beach or to a summery soiree, and everywhere in between! Rock it head-to-toe like at Michael Kors, or pair with simple coordinating pieces, as seen at Oscar De La Renta.

Head Scarves

If there was one standout accessory of the season, it was without a doubt the headscarf. All over the runways, models wore brightly-colored silk scarves in their hair, tied any number of ways. This retro styling adds elegance to any outfit, and since there are endless ways to tie a scarf, you'll never run out of ways to accessorize.

Tie Dye

Tie dye has come a long way since Woodstock. These days, designers are favoring tonal, dip-dyed pieces, like the pretty sweaters seen at Prabal Gurung.

Of course, if you are still enamored with rainbow tie dye pieces, then there's a piece for you too! Kaia Gerber walked at the R13 show wearing a colorful tie dye blazer with matching T-shirt. Tie dye for the office, anyone? Maybe not, but I have a feeling this jacket will be a street style favorite.
