Police arrest teen suspected in killing of airman during North Little Rock gas station robbery

A teen identified as a suspect in a deadly robbery in downtown North Little Rock has been arrested, authorities said.

The North Little Rock Police Department said 18-year-old Drequan Lamont Robinson was arrested about 5:15 p.m. at the Motel 6 on Bankhead Drive in Little Rock.

Shawn Mckeough Jr., a senior airman from Maine who was stationed at the Little Rock Air Force Base, was fatally shot during the robbery, which happened Friday night at a gas station near Dickey Stephens Park. Police said they believe Mckeough had tried stopping the robbery.

Police earlier Monday named Robinson as one of the two suspects. The other person hasn't been identified.

Robinson was being interviewed by investigators on Monday night, police said.

Police in North Little Rock on Monday identified a suspect in the deadly holdup of a downtown gas station where a military serviceman was killed after trying to stop the robbery.

The North Little Rock Police Department said 18-year-old Drequan Lamont Robinson was one of the two suspected robbers. The department said warrants were issued for the teen on charges of capital murder and aggravated robbery.

Authorities said two robbers held up the Valero Big Red gas station on Friday evening in downtown North Little Rock.

At some point during the robbery, one of the gunmen shot 23-year-old Shawn Mckeough Jr., a senior airman from Maine who was stationed at the Little Rock Air Force Base. Police said they believe Mckeough had tried stopping the robbery.

Police released surveillance footage after the robbery, which shows two people armed with handguns with their faces at least partially covered.

Authorities said they were continuing to investigate the shooting on Monday and haven’t identified the second robbery suspect.

No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon.

Authorities offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robbers.

Mckeough served at the Little Rock-area base as an aerial delivery operations specialist, according to the Air Force. He received two achievement medals while stationed at airbases in Germany and South Korea after enlisting in 2015.

“We are heartbroken to have lost a valued member of our Team Little Rock family,” said 19th Airlift Wing commander Col. Gerald Donohue in a statement. “Shawn’s death will be felt by each of us, and we are committed to supporting his loved ones and fellow Airmen during this very difficult time.”
