SICK OR TREAT?

‘The Pie Face’ sandwich that combines every northerner’s favourite chippy tea in one go

THE stereotypical Northern feast of pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy has been taken to a new level with the creation of "Pie Face".

This enormous sandwich includes all of the traditional favourites - in one meal.

Samantha Mitchell and her husband Garry own The New Cake and Sandwich Shop in Manchester and had a brainwave to include all the comfort foods in one ginormous bap.

The pair have been celebrating different sandwiches every week and brought in "Pie Face" as part of the series.

Samantha said she created the dish by starting with a layer of chips, adding a homemade steak pie and topping it with mushy peas.

She said she was inspired by the Wigan kebab, or "Pie Barm", which is a single pie in a roll.

She told the Metro: "I decided to do a twist on a Wigan kebab. I wanted the pie to be upside down to blend in with our different take on things.

"Myself and my husband Garry have wanted to introduce a different sandwich called Sandwich of the Week, we change it weekly, promote it on Facebook and in-store and charge £3 for one.

"We do try to be different, sometimes rather strange, but our regulars love the wide variety.

"We’ve had so much fantastic response from the Pie Face."

In the past the pair have brought out a Mexican Sloppy Joe and a Newton Burger.

The couple often get suggestions from their three young boys, who also help chose the names of the sandwiches.

Samantha added that all her sandwiches have been a success but she is most proud of "Pie Face".
