CANTON – An Emporia man was seriously injured Monday night when his car was struck by a semi that ran a stop sign on a Marian County highway.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2007 International semi driven by Jonathon D. Hewitt, 37, of Wichita, was northbound on K-15 about 8:25 p.m. and, due to dense fog, failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with U.S. 56, about six miles east of Canton.

The truck hit a 2018 Chevrolet TK driven by Evan L. Stout, 67, of Emporia.

Stout was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with serious injuries. Hewitt was not injured. Both men were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
