A truck driver’s defensive driving skills helped avert what could have been a very serious accident.
Astrit Hoxha was traveling on I-295 in Jacksonville, going about 65 mph when an elderly driver suddenly merged into traffic.
Video shows a Toyota Corolla pull out in front of him from an off-ramp. Hoxha estimates it was moving at about 10 mph.
Fortunately, the quick-thinking driver was able to swerve off the road, into the median and back onto the roadway.
“My body was shaking at the time,” Hoxha said. “I’m so lucky, and she’s so lucky.”
Hoxha said there were two other semi-trucks not far behind him that stopped to make sure he was okay.
According to an incident report, the driver of the Toyota was a 76-year-old woman who said she was lost.
It’s unclear whether or not she was cited.
