Brazil’s president praises Trump and slams ‘fake news’ at White House

Hardline Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro praised President Trump and “traditional family lifestyles,” and railed against political correctness and “fake news” during an appearance at the White House Tuesday — drawing praise from the commander-in-chief.

“May I say that Brazil and the United States stand side by side in their efforts to ensure liberties and respect to traditional family lifestyles with respect to God our creator … and against fake news,” said Bolsonaro, who has a history of making anti-LGBTQ remarks and decrying “political correctness.”

He cited Ronald Reagan, as well as Trump, as role models, and said he wanted to make Brazil great — echoing the president’s MAGA slogan.

“The United States changed in 2017 and Brazil has just started to change now. We stand together for the ultimate benefit of our two nations. We want to have a great America, yes, and we want to have a great Brazil,” he continued.

“May I voice my adoration and recognition to President Trump on this beautiful day where we seal a promising alliance between the two most promising and largest democracies in the Western Hemisphere. May God bless Brazil and may God bless the United States of America.”

Trump replied: “I’m very proud to hear the president use the term,” before launching another attack on social media companies, which he claims censor Republicans and promote Democrats.

Bolsonaro’s ode to “traditional family lifestyles” reflected his views on homosexuality.

In 2011, he said he’d rather see his own son die in a car crash than learn that he was gay.

“I would be incapable of loving a homosexual son. I’m not going to be a hypocrite: I’d rather my son died in an accident than showed up with some bloke with a mustache,” he said.
