Gun Loaded With Hollow-Point Bullets Found By Warren Police

A gun loaded with hollow-point bullets and drug paraphernalia was found during a traffic stop in Warren: Prosecutor's Office.

WARREN, NJ — A gun loaded with hollow-point bullets and drug paraphernalia were found during a traffic stop in Warren, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson announces.

On Saturday, April 7 at around 1:45 p.m., a Warren Township Police Officer pulled over a 2007 Nissan Murano for motor vehicle violations on Interstate 78.

While approaching the vehicle, with three people inside, the officer smelled an odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the SUV, police reported.

All three people inside gave inconsistent reasons as to where they were going, according to the report.

Warren Township K9 “Onyx” and his handler came to the scene and conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle and gave an indication of narcotics inside.

Police then searched the SUV and found a digital scale with white powder residue and a Smith & Wesson .380 caliber handgun that was loaded with hollow-point bullets, Robertson said.

The passenger Martin Harris, 33, of Larry Place, Columbus, Ohio was charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun and fourth-degree possession of hollow point bullets.

The driver David Carter, 38, of Rand Avenue, of Columbus, Ohio was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a disorderly person offense. Carter was also issued motor vehicle summonses for following too closely, careless driving and driving without a license.

Carter was released on his own recognizance and Harris was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
