Americans may not trust Hillary, but they do trust Clinton to get things done in a crisis and value her experience, a new Gallup poll finds

  • Clinton beating Trump 62 to 31 per cent on the experience question
  • She beats Trump on question of who would work well with both parties
  • She also tops him on who would display good judgement in a crisis
  • Both candidates have terrible numbers on the 'trustworthy' question – 32 and 33 percent
  • Trump leads Clinton on who is a 'strong and decisive' leader
  • Survey results come a day after Clinton blasted Trump as not suited for the presidency

Hillary Clinton's numbers on a key trustworthiness question are far from optimal, but she is beating Donald Trump two-to-one on who has the right 'experience' to be president, a new poll reveals.

A Gallup survey released Friday has Clinton beating Trump two-to-one when Americans are asked who has the 'experience it takes to be president.' Clinton gets 62 percent, compared to 31 percent for Trump.

On a related question, who would work well with both parties to 'get things done,' Clinton tops Trump 51 to 39 percent, a 12-point edge.

And on who would show good judgement in a crisis, Clinton tops Trump 48 to 39 per cent.

Trump's biggest edge is on which candidate would be a 'strong and decisive leader.' He beats Clinton by 60 to 51 percent.

The character comparison could play an important role in a contest that is already devolving into a mud-throwing contest.

Clinton delivered a fiery speech in San Diego Thursday where she cast Trump as having an 'unfit' temperament for the White House, ridiculing some of his most controversial statements and policy proposals.

Trump shot back immediately that Clinton doesn't look 'presidential.'

Both candidates have poor numbers when it comes to trustworthiness. Americans surveyed apply the phrase to Clinton 32 percent of the time, and 33 percent for Trump. Trump regularly labels Clinton 'crooked Hillary' and has started referring to her as 'lyin' Hillary.'

Clinton, who had a West Wing office before she got elected to the Senate and joined President Obama's cabinet, also beats Trump on who could manage the government effectively, by 49 percent to 42 percent.

Trump also leads Clinton on who could bring changes the country needs, 42 to 37 per cent.

Clinton also edges the real estate mogul on who 'cares about the needs of people like you.' She beats him 44 to 37 per cent.
