  • Alex Rodriguez rehearsed his proposal to Jennifer Lopez with his assistant, he said on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

  • A-Rod not only wanted the engagement to be perfect, but he was also waiting for the best sunset, so he practiced for three days until everything was right.

As a former New York Yankee, Alex Rodriguez knows all too well how important it is to practice prior to a big game-or, in this case, a big proposal. On Tuesday, A-Rod shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that before getting down on one knee, he rehearsed everything he was going to say to J.Lo with...his assistant.

A-Rod, 44, proposed to Jennifer Lopez, 49, in the Bahamas on March 19, with a cool breeze and a reported $1.4 million rock. Based on the stunning sunset pics the two shared, it would appear that Rodriguez was feeling as calm as anyone could be in his very terrifying position. Even body language experts agreed that he seemed slightly nervous, yet self-assured. And now we know that it's because he "rehearsed three days in a row," with a little help from his assistant, he told Fallon.

Why so many false starts? "I wanted the sunset to be perfect," he explained.

“One time the sunset was at 6:27 p.m., the next day 6:29 and then the third day it was raining. So, I kind of came out at around 6:29 and it worked out well,” Rodriguez said of the fated moment.

Well, it would seem it was worth the wait, because they did indeed get breathtaking snaps. And it turns out they also aren't exactly in a rush to plan a wedding.

During an interview with WKTU’s Cubby & Carolina In the Morning, Lopez said: "We haven’t started planning yet. You know, we just got engaged! Then right afterwards we started working right away, and we’re working the rest of the year, so I don’t know what’s going to happen."

Lopez, who is currently filming Hustlers, stays close to A-Rod by FaceTiming from set, which sounds a lot more fun than getting mired in wedding details:

J.Lo added, “We haven’t decided if we’re going to squeeze it in somewhere or we’re going to wait, so, you know. I really don’t know yet. It’s easy, I’m not lying right now!”

We believe you, J.Lo. Sorry people keep asking you "When's the wedding?!" We're also just a little...excited.
