Will a Chattanooga politician run to replace Lamar Alexander?

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Will a Chattanooga politician run to replace Lamar Alexander?

The senior Senator from Tennessee announced on Monday that he will not seek re-election in two years.

So the guessing game has already begun on who might replace him.

We asked two possible candidates if they would be interested in the job.

Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke considered running for Bob Corker’s seat.

“As we look at 2020, which is a long way off, there will be a lot of people who are thinking about what the should do next, I want to help our state and our community in any way possible and so just like other people, I’m sure that’s something that I’ll examine.”

And Congressman Chuck Fleischmann has been in Congress for 8 years now.

“I never close any doors, but right now I’m very thankful with where I am. I was just reelected by the people of the third district. We’ll see who enters the field, what comes of that, but right now I’m pleased to be in the House.”

Governor Bill Haslam has also announced his interest in running for the open seat.
