Piers Morgan has blasted Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas after his GMB co-host Charlotte Hawkins was sent home.

Charlotte and her partner Brendan Cole were given the boot from the BBC One contest this weekend following a dance-off with EastEnders star Davood Ghadami .

But Piers is not happy about it, and he's blaming it all on Shirley.

After the result was aired on Sunday night, he took to Twitter to slam the result, suggesting that Shirley "had it in" for Charlotte from the start.

He wrote: "WHAT?????? Ridiculous decision. She was improving every week. I blame Shirley 'Well, Mollie' Ballas - had it in for them from the start."

He was making reference to the fact that Shirley accidentally got Charlotte's name wrong while giving her feedback on Saturday night, calling her Mollie (as in her fellow contestant, Mollie King).

Charlotte was sent home after all four judges decided to keep Davood in the competition.

And when an angry fan tweeted Shirley, Piers couldn't help but get involved.

The viewer said: "Thanks Shirley for putting this lovely girl @ CharlotteHawkns out of strictly with your sarcasm Hard comments !!!"

Shirley responded: "The country has too vote not me."

And Piers quoted her tweet, sarcastically adding: "It’s ‘to’, Mary."

He later shared a selfie of himself with Charlotte and GMB's Susanna Reid, writing: "It’s over but at least she still gets to work with me."

Charlotte is the third celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing.

The Good Morning Britain presenter and her professional partner Brendan were in a shock dance-off against EastEnders star Davood and his partner Nadiya Bychkova.

Davood and Nadiya did their Viennese Waltz to Say You Love Me by Jessie Ware and Charlotte and Brendan performed their Jive to Marry You by Bruno Mars in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition.

All four judges chose to save Davood over Charlotte.

Craig Revel Horwood said: "I’d like to save the couple that I thought danced the best and who fixed a problem with a foot on the floor and that is Davood and Nadiya.”

Darcey Bussell said: “The couple who I’d like to save on giving a stronger technical performance is Davood and Nadiya.”

Bruno Tonioli added: “Without a shadow of a doubt, I have to pick the couple who actually danced even better than Saturday night, Davood and Nadiya.”

Head Judge Shirley agreed with her fellow judges and said she also would have saved the actor.

When asked by Tess if she had enjoyed their time on the show, Charlotte said: "I've had an amazing time, such an amazing time, it’s been brilliant from start to finish, it really has been.

"A huge thank you to Brendan who has just been fantastic, we’ve had such a great time going through all the dances, you’ve always been there for me, getting my back, there with the support.

"A big thank you to everyone that voted, I had so much support from friends, colleagues, online, it’s been amazing and I loved the chance to come out here and dance. I was trying to get better, I’m going out knowing that I gave it my best and that’s all you can do.”

Brendan added: “Quite often you stand in this position and you go, ‘hey it was our time to go’ and perhaps today it was our time to go.

"Not often you stand here with such sadness and go ‘I’m going to miss this and I’m going to miss hanging out with this girl.’

"I’m going to miss dancing with her, I’ve had one of the best Strictly’s in 15 years and it’s hard for me to even say that and I feel really emotional.”
