A road closure is in place this evening (November 19) following a fire at a popular pub and hotel in Lamberhurst, near Tunbridge Wells.

Two fire engines plus a bulk water carrier and height vehicle are being used to extinguish a chimney fire at The Chequers Inn on The Broadway.

Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service arrived on the scene just after 2pm and currently remain at the pub to tackle the blaze.

It is reported that Kent Police are also at the scene of the incident.

A local road closure is in place, and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters are using specialist chimney access equipment and thermal imaging cameras to assess the condition of the chimney stack while a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to drive smoke and fumes out of the premises.

"A height vehicle has been deployed to provide a platform to monitor the structure and damp down hot spots, while crews continue to monitor with thermal imaging cameras to prevent signs of fire spreading to the roof space."

There are no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Kent Police has been contacted for comment.
