POPS: Food, drink and fun: Pops at the Post offers it all

Published 12:00 am Sunday, May 27, 2018

Pops at the Post is about so much more than just the music: it’s about the opportunity to come together as a community to share good fun and fellowship among friends.

Throw in some favorite hometown food, beverage and craft vendors and we can safely say: we’re offering a little something for everyone this year.

Food and drink vendors this year include:

  • TnG BBQ

Owned by Obie Faggart of China Grove, this mobile catering company returns to the Pops for the fourth year this Saturday. The company will be serving smoked barbecue trays, barbecue sandwiches, BBQ mac and cheese, smoked hot dogs and barbecue nachos.

  • Som’s Meat on a Stick

Som’s has been bringing its goods to Pops since that very first year in 2005. Crowd-pleasing classics from this vendor include classic pork and chicken skewers and grilled corn on the cob.

  • Kaye’s Funnel Cakes

Robert and Kaye Corriher, co-owners of Kaye’s Funnel Cakes, will be back in action this year with some sweet treats. They’ll serve up fresh-pressed lemonade, funnel cakes and deep-fried Oreos.

  • Pelican SnoBalls

Looking to keep cool during the early June warmth? Visit Pelican’s SnoBalls for a variety of flavors of shaved ice.

  • Mr. Cone

For many years, Mr. Cone ice cream has been involved with the Pops at the Post concert, and this year will be no exception. Owner Joe Bello will be serving his premium soft serve ice cream in cones, cups and sundaes.

  • The Hotdog Shack

New to Pops this year is vendor Jason Smith with The Hotdog Shack. Smith says he’s attended the concert before and was excited to be asked to be a vendor — enough to make arrangements in a fully booked schedule to attend. He’ll be serving hotdogs and hamburgers with assorted condiments and toppings, grilled chicken, chips and Cheerwine slushies.

  • Cheerwine

Pops at the Post just wouldn’t be the same without the legendary southern drink Cheerwine. Once again this year, they will be serving free Cheerwine and Diet Cheerwine.

Artisans and kids entertainment will be a new addition to Pops at the Post peripherals this year.

On the day of the concert, Rowan County’s Arts and Ag will be on display from 3 to 7 p.m.

The display will include artist booths set up on West Fisher Street in front of the Rowan Public Library.

Artists and vendors there will showcase wearable pieces, jewelry, drawings, photography, watercolor, clay, metal, wood, decorative, painting, fiber, leather and more.

The group will also bring additional family friendly activities such as bouncy houses, face painting, and strolling entertainment.
