CARDWELL, MO (KAIT) - More information has been released regarding a murder investigation in Cardwell.

Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder said 77-year-old Vada Nichols of Cardwell was found dead after deputies were called to 603 E. Mulberry Sunday around 12:15 p.m. Deputies confirmed a crime had been committed.

Officials with the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office said Charles Scott Lipper, 54, has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and first-degree robbery.

A 911 caller told authorities that "someone had murdered her mother," according to Holder.

During the murder investigation, a person of interest was found in Kennett and arrested. Lipper is currently in the Dunklin County Justice Center.

An autopsy on the woman's body was scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of death.

Neighbors in the area said they were disturbed to hear of the crime, but not surprised.

One man who lives near where the crime occurred said years ago, something like this would have been unexpected.

"A small community like this several years ago you didn't have to worry about anything," said Rick Risner  "She had a lot of years to go, for somebody to cut her life short that is just it's sickening."

Lipper appeared in court on March 27 at which time he waived his formal arraignment, according to online records.

He is due back in court on April 5.
