Entire Washington town ordered to evacuate immediately as wildfire bears down

CONCONULLY, Wash. -- An immediate evacuation was issued Tuesday night for the entire town of  Conconully in north-central Washington and surrounding area for an advancing wildfire.

Conconully has a population of about 210 people in Okanogan Conty.

"The fire is coming off Funk Mountain and Sugarloaf area moving south towards the town of Conconully," Okanogan County Fires tweeted late Tuesday night. "Persons need to be aware of their surroundings and evacuate immediately. Law enforcement and fire crew are in the area to assist leaving the area on Conconully highway.

"Do not wait for door to door notification, leave immediately," the county tweeted. "Listen to local radio stations for updates."

The Okanogan Complex Fire has burned nearly 12,500 acres in north-central Washington since it was started by lightning last Saturday, state officials said. The fire is burning both trees and brush.

The Okanogan Complex is made up of the Lime Belt Fire, the Blue Lake Fire, the Tunk Block Fire, the Beaver Lake Fire. The 4,204 acre Nine Mile Fire is also being managed under the complex.
