Buendia's brace helps Norwich return to summit
Norwich returned to the top of the Sky Bet Championship with a 3-2 win over Hull at Carrow Road on the evening manager Daniel Farke signed a new long-term contract with the club.
After being knocked off the summit by Leeds on Tuesday night the Canaries swiftly re-asserted their authority, with goals from Marco Stiepermann and Emi Buendia putting them two up inside 14 minutes.
Although the Tigers pulled one back on the stroke of half-time through Marc Pugh, the hosts were irresistible after the break, with Buendia scoring his second on the hour mark.
Former Norwich striker Chris Martin marked his return to Carrow Road by making it 3-2 four minutes from time with a close-range header but Norwich saw out the game with few problems.
The result completed a perfect night for the hosts, with the club revealing just before kick-off that Farke and his staff had committed their futures to the club until June 2022.
Late strike gives Rotherham hope
Semi Ajayi's header deep into injury time gave Rotherham a 2-1 victory at QPR for their first Sky Bet Championship away win of the season.
Ajayi put the Millers ahead with 20 minutes remaining but Bright Osayi-Samuel's 85th-minute equaliser appeared to have rescued a point for struggling Rangers.
However, Ajayi rose to meet Anthony Forde's left-wing free-kick with seconds remaining.
It was the Nigerian's fifth goal in four games and took third-from-bottom Rotherham level on points with Wigan and Reading.
The result also dragged QPR into serious trouble. Steve McClaren's side have lost nine of their past 11 Championship matches, have won just once in the league since Boxing Day, and are now seven points above the relegation zone.
West Brom win in first game without Moore
West Brom beat Swansea 3-0 in their first game since the sacking of Darren Moore.
Chris Brunt scored one and made another on his first start in 11 games. He gave Albion a 19th-minute lead with a free-kick.
Swansea were then handed the chance to equalise from the penalty spot five minutes before half-time when City skipper Mike Van Der Hoorn was fouled by Craig Dawson.
But Swans striker Bersant Celina lost his footing taking the penalty and could only mis-kick the ball two yards to his right.
Swansea slipped further behind when Mason Holgate scored in the 54th minute before Jay Rodriguez added a third five minutes from time as City boss Graham Potter, who played for Albion between 1997 and 2000, watched his side crash to a fifth successive away defeat.
North End continue play-off push with win over promotion rivals
Middlesbrough lost for the second home game in a row after letting a lead slip as they were beaten 2-1 by Preston.
Boro were left fuming at referee Keith Stroud's controversial decision to send off defender Daniel Ayala just after the hour when they led 1-0 courtesy of Ashley Fletcher's 32nd-minute opener.
In-form Preston, who are now unbeaten in 11 games, levelled from the resulting free-kick when Paul Gallagher's brilliant effort found the net.
With eight minutes remaining substitute Jayden Stockley headed in the winner to lift Preston to within two points of the play-off zone which Middlesbrough are now in danger of dropping out of.
Thompson at the double as Millwall boost survival hopes
Ben Thompson's double at Birmingham gave Millwall a vital win in their fight against relegation.
The midfielder struck twice in the first half to secure a 2-0 win as the game ended without any crowd trouble following Sunday's shocking assault on Aston Villa's Jack Grealish at St Andrew's.
It is understood that stewards were given a strict reminder of their responsibilities ahead of the match.
Fan Paul Mitchell was sentenced to 14 weeks in prison after invading the pitch and punching Grealish in Villa's 1-0 derby win. There were no such problems this time.
Millwall - who ended a run of four straight defeats - sit just a point above the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone after Rotherham's late win at QPR.
Thompson condemned 12th-placed Birmingham to a third straight defeat, their already slim play-off hopes fading.
McGinn nets two as Villa sink Forest
John McGinn's double helped Aston Villa win the battle of the play-off hopefuls as they secured a comfortable 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Martin O'Neill suffered a frustrating defeat against his former club, despite seeing his side take the lead through Jack Colback in only the third minute.
McGinn netted twice to make it 2-1 before 16 minutes had been played, while Kortney Hause's 61st-minute flick provided some breathing room as Villa secured a third consecutive win for the first time since November to lift Dean Smith's team to within touching distance of the top six.
Butland keeps Derby out in Pride Park goalless draw
Jack Butland stood in Derby's path with a string of saves that earned Stoke a point in a 0-0 draw at Pride Park.
Derby dominated possession and were by far the more positive side but Butland denied Tom Huddlestone and Harry Wilson in the first half while Duane Holmes hit a post.
Stoke created little but James McClean headed against a post, while a Wilson free-kick clipped the bar although the point moves Derby into the top six.
