Director Kevin Smith has shared that he'll be briefly stepping back in front of the camera during his upcoming episode of The Flash – and he'll be bringing Jason Mewes with him.

Which means The Flash season four is about to host an on-screen Jay and Silent Bob reunion, even if they're not actually playing those exact characters.

Kevin confirmed the news in his latest Fatman on Batman podcast, saying: "We shot a scene, Jason and I, where we play two security guards in The Flash. And it's not Jay and Silent Bob, but Jason speaks and I don't. So there you go."

So, basically Jay and Silent Bob then.

During the podcast, Kevin Smith revealed he'd been working on The Flash again recently, marking his third directing gig for the show, and reflected on how the on-screen team-up came about.

"I guess I can spoil it here," he said. "At one point, like you know, I did my first episode of Flash, and they asked Jason Mewes to be in the episode. He was up in Vancouver, so I was like, 'He's always by my side, so he'll be there anyway, absolutely'.

"So this time around, there's a scene that had two security guards in it, and so the writers of the episode asked me specifically, 'We're wondering, do you think you and Jay would want to play the security guards?'"

Jason appeared in Kevin's first episode of The Flash back in season two episode 'The Runaway Dinosaur' – he played 'Humvee guy', for those of you wondering – and it sounds like he's the person we have to thank for convincing Kevin to get involved this time too.

"Honestly, I did not want to do it, because I knew it required that I wear pants," Kevin continued.

"I couldn't be the security guard in jorts. They probably would cut that. So I knew I'd have to wear an outfit and shit, which included pants. So I was like, 'Oh f**k, I don't wanna do it'.

"But I knew if I said no, I'd never hear the end of it [from Jay]. Cause he'd go, 'We had a chance to be on a f**king Flash together, and you didn't f**king take it!' So I said, 'Alright, we'll do it'."

Smith is currently recovering after suffering a "massive heart attack" last month and has been sharing updates on his health with fans, as well as revealing some of the get-well cards he's been receiving – including one from Team Flash:

"Please ask Cisco & Caitlin if they can fix me and see if Barry, Iris, Joe & Ralph can figure out who attacked my heart!" he joked. "I suspect either Savitar or a poor diet!"

There's no air date for the director's episode of The Flash just yet, but it's episode number 17 of the current season, so we'll be seeing Jay and Silent Bob together on screen again before we know it.
