Katy Perry edges out Taylor Swift, Beyonce to become highest-paid woman in music

Katy Perry is music's highest-paid woman, Forbes announced this week, thanks to the $83 million pretax she earned in 2018.

Perry's payday comes courtesy of a recent tour, titled Witness: The Tour, with Forbes reporting she grossed more than $1 million a night, as well as from her judging stint on "American Idol."

Swift came in second with $80 million, with the Forbes list acknowledging that she may have placed first if many of the dates of her Reputation stadium tour didn't fall outside the ranking's June 2017-June 2018 time window.

Beyonce comes in third on the list with $60 million, thanks to her quiet year following the birth of her twins, Rumi and Sir, in June 2017. Just like Swift, many of Beyonce's On The Run II tour dates fell outside the list's scoring period, impacting her standing.

US singer Katy Perry announced Monday that she is stepping back from music to focus on other interests in her life.

Rounding out the top five is Pink in fourth place with $52 million and Lady Gaga in fifth with $50 million.
