The first pictures from the scene of a serious crash on the A2070 in Ashford this afternoon (November 19) have emerged.

Two cars collided near Ashford Services between the A2042 and Finn Farm Road shortly before midday.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance, rushed to attend and two casualties were airlifted to a London hospital with injuries described as serious.

The stretch of road has since remained closed in both directions.

It is the first of two incidents on the A2070 in the space of an hour.

The A2070 Bad Munstereifel Road southbound carriageway was also shut earlier after a vehicle overturned between Barrey Road and The Boulevard/Waterbrook Avenue.

The vehicle has now been removed and that part of the road has reopened.

However, the A2070 remains shut in both directions at the scene of the first collision.
