Coventry 3-0 Boreham Wood: Mark Robins' Sky Blues coast into FA Cup third round for first time in three years

  • Coventry reached the FA Cup third round for the first time since 2014 on Sunday
  • Duckens Nazon put Coventry ahead before Marc McNulty added a second
  • Jordan Shipley sealed victory for the Sky Blues shortly after the break
  • Coventry boss Mark Robins praised his side's ruthlessness in front of goal

Mark Robins hailed Coventry City's finishing after they reached the FA Cup third round for the first time since 2014.

The League Two Sky Blues – who famously won the Cup in 1987 – ruthlessly exposed the 26-place gap between the teams with their joint biggest Cup winning margin since beating Arlesey 3-0 in the first round in 2012.

Coventry took a 27th-minute lead through Duckens Nazon, who teed up Marc McNulty to lob the second on 40 before Jordan Shipley sealed it two minutes after the break.

Sky Blues boss Robins, a Cup winner with Manchester United in 1990, said: 'Our first meaningful attack ended up in a goal after some really good movement, good play and good passing.

'Their goalkeeper (Grant Smith) made a good save from Marc McNulty's shot and Nazon had a touch before firing into the net.

'Then nerves settled well and truly after McNulty's outstanding goal.

'Clinically that was a really high class goal and that will do his confidence the world of good again and he can keep going.

'There's a lot of pressure on these games because of the banana-skin element of them and you can see teams are having a real go.'

Boreham Wood boss Luke Garrard said: 'We created history at the club. It put a marker down.'
