Crowds flocked to Abergavenny for the town’s annual food festival at the weekend.

As well as celebrity guest speakers and a host of mouthwatering dishes on offer, the jam-packed weekend of festivities included an Abergavenny community feast and a fireworks spectacular and party at Abergavenny Castle.

Here are some of the highlights...

There were top tips from the celebrities

The festival kicked off with chef, writer and campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall speaking about his life in food, the origins of River Cottage and the need to grow more vegetables in front of a packed audience at the Borough Theatre.

The following day, Bake Off: Crème de la Crème’s Tom Kerridge took to the Borough Theatre stage in conversation with food writer Tim Hayward.

The Michelin starred chef also appeared on the main stage in the market hall, sharing his cooking advice with the audience and signing copies of his fourth book, The Dopamine Diet.

Festival visitors were also treated to award-winning restaurant critic Jay Rayner’s Ten (Food) Commandments.

The Masterchef judge took his audience through why thou shalt always eat with thy hands, why thou should most definitely worship leftovers and why thou must celebrate the stinkiest of foods.

There were more delicious dishes than ever before (and you couldn't get enough of them)

Fresh ravioli

Ghanaian food

Perfect brunches

Cheese, cheese and more cheese

Gorgeous preserves

And, of course, Prosecco

And the rest...

And it wasn't all about the food.

Despite wet conditions, festival spirits refused to be dampened with crowds enjoying fireworks at Abergavenny Castle and music from The Brass Funkeys.

There was also a brilliant new children’s space with face painting and other attractions.

What they said...

This year marked the 19th successive year Abergavenny Food Festival has been held, after beginning in 1999 by local farmers in response to the BSE crisis.

Each year the festival attracts more than 35,000 visitors, generating an estimated £4 million for the local economy.

The festival’s Chief Executive Aine Morris said: “This year’s line-up is a true reflection of the passion and commitment of those involved in bringing good food to our tables. There is a veritable food revolution going on, which we are seeing through the explosion of interest in food and food activities."
