SEOUL -- South Korea's nominee for foreign minister, Kang Kyung-wha, said at a confirmation hearing Wednesday that she would seek renewed discussions over a 2015 deal with Japan on wartime "comfort women" if she wins approval.

"I will try to gather wisdom from the victims' perspective and continue talks with Japan so that sincere measures will be taken," she said. Kang previously served as a special adviser to the United Nations secretary-general, dealing mainly with human rights issues.
