USC Signing Day 2017: Trojans’ Recruiting Class By the Numbers

Breaking down the USC Signing Day 2017 haul, by the numbers, the Trojans added a balanced mix of western talent.

USC Signing Day 2017 is all wrapped up, with 24 new players ready to get their careers started as Trojans.

With what is widely regarded as one of the most impressive finishes in the country, Clay Helton and staff closed the door on 2017 recruiting with style.

USC added six blue chip commitments on Signing Day to a class which already featured 19 committed players to cap an undoubtedly successful cycle.

So it’s time to dive deeper into the numbers of USC’s latest haul.

The 2017 USC Football recruiting class…

…includes 23 signed players and one blueshirt for a total of 24 total additions.

…boasts two five-stars, 12 four-stars and 10 three-stars.

…ranks fourth nationally in the 247Sports composite.

…finished in the national Top 5 for the 11th time since 2002.

…ranks first in the Pac-12 for the 13th time since 2002.

…includes running back Stephen Carr as the highest-ranked addition at No. 20 nationally.

…has four players in the nation Top 50, six players in the national Top 100.

…includes cornerback Je’Quari Godfrey as the lowest-ranked addition at No. 689 nationally. Two-star longsnapper Damon Johnson was unranked nationally, but rated No. 232 in California.

…includes five offensive linemen, four defensive linemen, four linebackers, two tight ends, receivers, two cornerbacks and two safeties and one quarterback, running back and longsnapper.

…boasts 13 players who are among the Top 10 players at their position, including Carr, WR Joseph Lewis, DT Jay Tufele, DT Marlon Tuipulotu, ATH Greg Johnson, QB Jack Sears, TE Josh Falo, C Brett Neilon and Johnson, who are rated in the Top 5 of their position.

…includes 13 players from the state of California, two from Arizona, two from Nevada, two from Utah and one each from Alaska, Florida, Oregon, and Texas, as well as one from American Samoa.

…boasts the No. 1 player from Oregon (Tupuipulotu), Arizona (OT Austin Jackson), Utah (Tufele) and American Samoa (LB Juliano Falaniko).

…had 10 players decommit over the course of the recruiting cycle. The highest-ranked decommitment, Bubba Bolden at No. 61 nationally, ultimately recommitted. Ranked No. 82 nationally, CB Thomas Graham was the highest-ranked decommit to sign elsewhere. Ranked No. 691 nationally, LB Javaris Steward was the lowest-ranked decommit, but S C.J. Miller and CB Wylan Free were unranked.
