Mansfield Man Gets Jail Time For Fatal Crash

Andre Bezeau, 48, admitted to being behind the wheel of a vehicle that fatally struck a motorcyclist on Route 1.

DEDHAM, MA — A Mansfield man admitted to his role in a 2016 crash that left a Rhode Island motorcyclist dead.

Andre Bezeau, 48, pleaded guilty in Norfolk Superior Court to motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and manslaughter,according to the Sun Chronicle. He was sentenced to a year in a house of corrections.

In July 2016, Bezeau struck 35-year-old Joseph Carpenter of Woonsocket while driving on Route 1 North in Wrentham. A state police investigation concluded that the crash was caused when Bezeau attempted to make a left turn across the northbound lane. Carpenter was struck in the process and was later pronounced dead at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.

The Norfolk County District Attorney's office requested three to five years in a state prison with probation.

Bezeau will serve the sentence with 50 days credit.
