Oregon men’s basketball guard Jalen Terry out with sprained ankle, still awaiting NCAA decision on waivers for LJ Figueroa, Aaron Estrada

EUGENE — Oregon is without highly-touted freshman guard Jalen Terry due to injury and is still awaiting word from the NCAA on the immediate eligibility waivers for LJ Figueroa and Aaron Estrada.

Ducks coach Dana Altman said Terry, Oregon’s lone true freshman, is “nursing a sprained ankle” and is “out for a while.”

Terry is expected to be Oregon’s backup point guard behind Will Richardson. The Ducks still have Chris Duarte and Amauri Hardy at guard as well as Estrada.

However, Altman said there is still no update from the NCAA on the immediately eligibility waivers being sought by Estrada and Figueroa, who transferred to Oregon from St. Peter’s and St. John’s, respectively, this offseason.

No. 20 Oregon opens the season against Eastern Washington on Wednesday but is still working to finalize its nonconference schedule. The Ducks are still trying to secure a home game on Nov. 28, but Altman said that’s in limbo as of Thursday.
