Maligned retailer Shopko, which filed for bankruptcy last month, announced more store closures Wednesday, bringing the South Dakota's list of closed stores up to 12.

The list of closures includes the Chamberlain Shopko Hometown store located at 1951 E. King Ave., according to an updated list on the Shopko bankruptcy information website. The estimated closure date is May 12. The retailer had previously announced the store would close, before removing it from the initial closure list.

Nationally, the list of closures has now climbed to more than 250 stores, including some previously announced stores. The South Dakota closures include Aberdeen, Chamberlain, Custer, Dell Rapids, Milbank, both Sioux Falls stores, Rapid City, Redfield, Sisseton, Wagner and Webster.

Shopko's bankruptcy website also includes a list of "go-forward store locations," which includes Mitchell's location at 1900 N. Main St. Other stores that are on the list of locations remaining open include Watertown and Shopko Hometown stores in Belle Fourche, Hot Springs, Madison, Mobridge, Sturgis and Winner.

Before the closures, Wisconsin-based Shopko was operating 363 stores in 24 states. It is also in the process of selling off all of its pharmacy locations from its stores.
