The Carbolite Gero Coke Reactivity Index furnace (CRI) determines lump-coke reactivity in carbon dioxide gas at elevated temperatures.

A dry coke sample of designated size and origin is reacted with CO2 gas in a retort at a specified elevated temperature for a specified length of time. The weight retained after reduction determines the CRI. The Carbolite Gero Coke Reactivity Index furnace (CRI) has a maximum operating temperature of 1100°C with three heating zones with an overall heated length of 700 mm. The modular heating system incorporates low thermal mass insulation and resistance coiled wire elements.
