Dr. M. Paul Brimmer, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at St. Jude's Catholic Church. There will be no visitation. Burial will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Glennys (Hofferd); his parents; his sister, Marjorie; and his brother, Larry.
Maurice Paul Brimmer was born on Feb. 6, 1921, in Kellerton, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Grace (Williams) Brimmer. He graduated from Kellerton High School in 1938. After serving in the U.S. Army, he graduated in 1945 from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He served in foreign services for five years, practiced out of Cedar Rapids in large animal medicine for 20 years and served as president of the East Central Iowa Veterinary Medicine Association. He was also federally employed for 12 years.
Paul was proud of his great marriage and great friends. He was an avid reader and news hound. He read over 50 books on religion, including the Bible, religious history and doctrines.
Paul and Glennys established an enduring charitable foundation with the revenue each year dedicated to a variety of, mainly small Cedar Rapids area-based organizations that operate with low expense and that receive little government assistance. A board of directors identifies the recipients each year within the guidelines established by the Brimmers, as well as state and federal law.
