The Greencastle Summer Music Festival ends its 2017 summer concert series on Wednesday, Aug. 16 with one of the leading voices of modern soul-blues music, Severn Records recording artist, Tad Robinson of Greencastle.

The free 7:30 p.m. concert at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church in Greencastle concludes a 13-week season, which has featured critically acclaimed regional and national touring acts within the genres of classical, jazz, blues, folk and world music.

The concerts, which feature “friends making music for friends,” is supported by contributions of individuals and businesses, including the Inn at DePauw and the Putnam County Community Foundation.

Robinson, a vocalist and harmonica player and a long-time Greencastle resident, will be joined by keyboard player Kevin Anker, bassist Dave Murray and drummer Jeff Chapin in the free and open-to-all-ages concert. The group has played and toured together for more than 15 years.

The set will consist of a mixed bag of new originals and covers of soul and blues tunes, many written by friends and collaborators of Robinson.

From his Manhattan roots and his Indiana and Chicago musical upbringing, Robinson has caught the attention of the music world with his eight Blues Music Award nominations (the Grammys of blues music) and his many recordings. He’s a veteran of countless national and international tours, having played in more than 20 countries, performing at many of the most important international blues festivals.

With harmonica chops schooled by Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, Junior Wells and James Cotton, among many, and vocals that compare to Otis Redding, Syl Johnson, All Green and Teddy Pendergrass, Robinson, according to Downbeat Magazine, “places near the top of the list of the finest living singers of soul blues.”

Robinson’s show will feature Anker, his longtime accompanist, producer and co-writer, who in addition to touring with Robinson is currently a full-time member of the legendary blues-rock band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Murray and Chapin make up what is considered one of the top roots music rhythm sections in Indiana and have worked with just about every notable blues and Americana act in the area.

In addition to his regular monthly Indianapolis-area performances, Robinson’s schedule includes shows later this year in Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, France, Germany and Belgium as well as recording dates in Chicago and Annapolis, Md.
