Local links: Sachse native Dylan Kim advances to second round of U.S. Women's Amateur

Dylan Kim of Sachse was the lone North Texan player to advance to the second round of U.S. Women's Amateur match play Wednesday at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn.

Kim, 21, who transferred from Baylor to Arkansas last year after taking a medical redshirt season, defeated Ellen Port, 56, a seven-time USGA champion from St. Louis. Kim, who finished fourth individually in the 2015 NCAA Championship while playing for Baylor, won 4 and 3.

Libby Winans, the Class 6A state champion from Plano East who is headed for Oklahoma, lost in 19 holes to Texas junior Emilee Hoffman. Grapevine junior Gabriella Tomanka lost 4 and 3 to Hyun Selin, the second seed from South Korea.

McKinney's Avery Zweig, 11, the youngest player in the field, missed the playoff for match play by one shot after making a bogey on her final hole of stroke play. Zweig was a finalist in the Drive, Pitch and Putt national championships at Augusta National in 2016 and 2018.

Dallasite heads list of Mid-Am qualifiers

Fin Ewing IV of Dallas was the medalist in qualifying for the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Cimarron Hills Golf & Country Club in Georgetown. He matched par with a 72. The Mid-Amateur is Sept. 22-27 at Carolina Golf Club in Charlotte, N.C.

Frisco junior shoots 65 to claim title

Henry Frizzell of Frisco shot a bogey-free 7-under 65 in Tuesday's final round to win the boys 15-18 division of the Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship at Gentle Creek Country Club in Prosper. It was his first Legends Junior Tour victory.

Frizzell shot an 8-under 136 to finish two shots ahead of Trophy Club's David Harrison.

In the Boys 14 and under division, Driftwood's Grant Yerger won after shooting a 1-under 71 in the final round. Dallas' Ben Delarosa finished second, a shot back of Yerger. McKinney's Amari Smith won the girls 12-18 division by one shot over Frisco's Gabbi Bentancourt.

Pair betters quota to win TGA event

Jamey Freisleben of Montgomery and Russell Schroeder of LaPorte won the Texas Golf Association's Texas Stableford Championship, finishing 91/2 points over their quota at Riverhill Country Club.

Tony Gann and Korby Keeney, both of Mansfield, placed second overall, scoring 81/4 points over their quota to win the Crenshaw flight.

James Blanton of Arlington and James Switzer of Fort Worth finished second in the Crenshaw flight with 53/4 points above their quota.
