Some Notes On Duke’s Upcoming Canadian Trip

Summer hoops ain’t winter hoops but but as any junkie will tell you, a fix is a fix is a fix. And we get to see who will stand in front of Zion Williamson.

Iona v Duke
PITTSBURGH, PA - MARCH 15: Marques Bolden #20 and Jack White #41 of the Duke Blue Devils defend against Tyrell Williams #44 of the Iona Gaels during the game in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at PPG PAINTS Arena on March 15, 2018 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

As Duke preps for the upcoming trip to Canada, a few notes.

First, Tre Jones (hip) and Cam Reddish (groin) will not play.

Secondly, while Coach K says the trip north is not about RJ Barrett, who is a Canadian citizen (K says he’s been too busy in the summers with USA Basketball to schedule an international tour), he has some significant praise for Barrett’s character:

The kid’s a winner, and an outstanding player,” the coach told Canoe.com. “He wants to be special. He’s engaged every second with you, and he’s smart, off the court (he’s) fun, very intelligent, he’s way ahead of his years as far as maturity, a very very mature player.”

He also said he has no concerns about Zion Williamson’s weight, saying that he finds Williamson “graceful.”

We’re just a few days away from summer hoops!
