James Dullum

James Martin Dullum, 86 of Nisswa, MN finished the race Saturday 17 Nov 2018 with a priest by his side and a rosary in his hand. Born to Martin and Florence (Chermak) Dullum on 20 Jan 1932 in Brainerd. Jim spent his youth on Main Street in Nisswa working the family business, Martin's. He attended Nisswa Elementary School, Brainerd High School, St. John's Prep School and St. John's University. He was forever dedicated to being the best husband and father and community member possible and we think he succeeded.

Returning to Nisswa after serving in the Intelligence Division of the US Army he took up residence and waited for the next big step in his life. That came from the neighboring town of Pequot Lakes in the form of a young lady named Shirley Bye. They raised 4 beautiful children in their 56 years of marriage. Jim and his siblings inherited a deep sense of family and work responsibility which they, in turn passed on to their children. He was a proud father who wasn't afraid to tell anyone he met about is children. And wasn't shy about sharing his faith with family, friends, and anyone he met along the way. Even in the hospital he continued to evangelize and spread his humor and smile to the very end.

Jim was a charter member of many Nisswa organizations including the Nisswa Fire Dept, Chamber of Commerce, and his beloved Lions Club. He was also a founding member of Nisswa State Bank. He was an avid bike rider, frequently seen riding around town, logging over 1000 miles per summer. He valued his God, his Catholic faith, his family & his community.

Jim never said no when something was asked of him from family or the community that he loved; driving his growing kid's to turtle races, giving rides to those in need, bringing others food thru meals on wheels, to his early morning slot in the Adoration Chapel and everything in between.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, son Timothy Dullum, daughters Debra (Bill) Cruz, Sandy (David) Tautges and Teresa (Ron) Berg, sister Mary Jean (Ron) Jelmo, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Pat Dullum, many nieces and nephews and a huge community of friends.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, his father and mother in law Charlie and Gladys Bye, brothers Ted and Paul, and sister-in-law Mary Dullum

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday 21 Nov 2018 at 11:00am at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Nisswa with visitation one hour prior to the service. Visitation on Tuesday evening 5-7 pm with prayer service at 7 pm and a rosary at 4:30 pm. ALL ARE WELCOME! Just one requirement, as the 'little old man from Martin's Sport Shop' would say you need to have a smile and make it a great day!
