India’s rape crisis deepens as young girl found dead after being sexually assaulted with sticks and another abducted from wedding

TWO young girls who were found dead after being sexually assaulted in India has laid bare the horrific extent of the country's worsening rape crisis.

An 11-year-old girl was found lying face down in a cricket pitch in the city of Surat after she had been sexually assaulted with sticks.

Further north, in the town of Etah, a seven-year-old girl was found in a dead in a building site after she was abducted from a wedding she had gone to with her parents on Monday.

Their deaths come after two girls were found raped and murdered last week, crimes which sparked a wave of protests in the country.

One victim was an eight-year-old Muslim girl, who was tortured in the basement of a Hindu temple.

An eight strong Hindu gang - including four cops and a child - were arrested over the brutal torture and murder of Asifa Bano in Kathua in Kashmir, India.

It also emerged the murdered schoolgirl's father has pleaded for the trial to be moved to another state because his family is facing death threats.

As protests continue in India, yesterday Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted by hundreds of noisy protesters during his visit to London.

They were demonstrating against a rising tide of sexual violence at home including two particularly brutal rapes.

The furious group held placards reading "Modi go home" and "we stand against Modi's agenda of hate and greed outside Downing Street and parliament as Modi arrived for talks with Prime Minister Theresa May.

Speaking at a diaspora event Modi said: “Rape is rape ... How can we accept this?”

Nearly 40 percent of India's rape victims are children, with 40,000 reported rapes in 2016.
