High school Week 8 top performers: Cardinal Gibbons’ Sidney Porter seals victory

American Heritage was driving down the field, poised to cause more heartbreak for Cardinal Gibbons by stealing another game from the Chiefs in the waning moments.

But Gibbons defensive back Sidney Porter stopped that, seizing a tipped pass out of mid-air and returning it about 70 yards for a touchdown to seal the Chiefs’ victory over the Patriots — snapping an 11-game losing streak against Heritage.

Porter and his pick-six highlighted the top performers around Broward and Palm Beach counties in Week 8.

Tyler Jones | American Heritage

The Patriots’ senior running back kept Heritage in the game, racking up 140 rushing yards on 22 carries and keeping the offense moving.

Kevon Purnell | Palm Beach Lakes

The senior running back finished with 226 yards and three touchdowns for the Rams in a 24-7 win over Olympic Heights in a District 13-7A game.

Vincent Davis | Cardinal Gibbons

The senior running back and Pitt commit cracked the century mark with 101 rushing yards on 20 carries against American Heritage.

Bobby Armes | Dwyer

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound senior running back ran for 153 yards and a touchdown to lead the Panthers to a 40-6 win over the visiting Forest Hill Falcons. The Panthers finished with 304 yards rushing.

Arthur Brefil | Cooper City

Brefil, a senior running back, punched in two fourth-quarter touchdowns to push the Cowboys ahead of Nova. He had a 1-yard touchdown run and another 20-yard scoring run, finishing the game with 113 rushing yards.

Joseph Montahj | Atlantic

The sophomore running back had 12 rushes for 101 yards and a touchdown as Atlantic rolled to a 42-0 victory over John I. Leonard.

Jimpson Jean | Piper

The Bengals senior had 129 rushing yards on 21 carries and tossed a touchdown pass to Jamarquez Thomas in Piper’s win over Taravella.

Austin Wallace | Wellington

The 6-1, 170-pound junior quarterback completed nine of 20 passes for 319 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-27 win over Jupiter.

Reggie Wallace | Taravella

Wallace had four catches for 112 yards and recorded an interception on defense in a losing effort against Piper.

Mark-Antony Richards | Wellington

The senior all-purpose back carried six times for 101 yards and added one catch for 80 yards and a touchdown in the Wolverines’ 48-27 win over Jupiter.

Jesse Rivera | Western

The senior signal-caller tossed two touchdown passes as the Wildcats took down district rival Plantation.

Leroy Love | Pahokee

The senior cornerback got the Blue Devils started in the team’s 35-0 rout over West Park Prep as he returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for the score. It was one of three returns for touchdowns on the night.

Curt Casteel | St. Thomas Aquinas

The senior Harvard commit threw only seven passes in a rout of Ft. Lauderdale, completing three of them, but all three went for touchdowns — one to Xavier Restrepo and two to Marcus Rosemy.

Michael Pratt | Boca Raton

The junior quarterback carried 11 times for 122 yards and passed for 53 yards and a score in a 24-6 win over Lake Worth.

DJ Humes | St. Thomas Aquinas

Humes, a senior linebacker, led the Raiders with nine tackles — including five tackles for loss — and a 10-yard sack Friday night.

Santino Marucci | Benjamin

The sophomore quarterback completed 18 of 29 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns, added 54 yards rushing on the ground and scored another in the Buccaneers’ 31-13 win over Calvary Christian Academy.

Bryan Miller | Western

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound linebacker had 11 tackles and 2.5 sacks as the Wildcats defense held Plantation to only seven points.

Jack Coulson | Olympic Heights

The senior wide receiver had a team-high nine catches for 112 yards and a score in a 24-7 loss to Palm Beach Lakes.

Michael Jarrett | Coral Springs

Jarrett, a senior running back, had 18 carries for 195 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown on fourth down. Coral Springs beat Monarch 30-17.

CJ Stewart | Palm Beach Central

The senior running back helped the Broncos to their sixth straight win with eight rushes for 66 yards and a touchdown in a 27-14 win over Seminole Ridge.

Tyerique Daley | Boyd Anderson

Daley had 150 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns as Boyd Anderson blew out Archbishop McCarthy 38-0.

Jymetre Hester | Glades Central

The senior wide receiver accounted for 127 yards in the air and a touchdown, 87 yards on the ground, and added an 81-yard punt return for another score in Glades Central’s 49-7 win over Boynton Beach.

Dominic Tianga | West Broward

The senior running back led the Bobcats of a win over South Broward, rushing for 167 yards and three rushing touchdowns on 12 carries.

Justin Wake | King’s Academy

The senior quarterback was 18 for 37 for 219 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-28 loss at Gulliver Prep.
