Authorities arrested a former Robertson County police chief Thursday in connection to allegations of misconduct, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reported Thursday.

James K. Yates was booked into the Robertson County Jail on one count of official misconduct and was being held on $2,500 bond, said TBI spokeswoman Leslie Earhart.

At the request of 19th District Attorney General John Carney, TBI agents began investigating Yates on allegations of misuse of governmental records.

During the investigation, the TBI reported, agents learned that between July 2016 and November 2017, Yakes used the Criminal Justice Portal System "to make inquiries unrelated to his official duties".

A Robertson County grand jury indicted him on an official misconduct charge on Nov. 14.

This is a developing story.
