Additional nursing places in Castlebar for CAO 2017 intake

GALWAY Mayo Institute of Technology has confirmed that it has reached agreement with the Department of Health, Department of Education and Skills and the Higher Education Authority for it to provide an additional 12 nursing places at its campus in Castlebar for the academic year 2017/18.

The Department of Nursing, Health Sciences and Social Care in GMIT Mayo offers a range of courses in nursing and applied social studies. The places are available for six additional general nursing places and six additional psychiatric nursing places.

With the addition of these nursing places and the new programme in early childhood care and education, the total number of students in this department is set to rise by 40 students, to over 360, on the academic year just completed.

Both the general and psychiatric nursing courses provided in GMIT Castlebar are Bachelors of Science (Honours) over four years, and include work placement. Nursing students are trained to work in hospitals, day centres, clinics, community services, and in specialist services such as intensive care, A&E, addictions, cognitive behaviour therapy and in peoples’ own homes.
