HCA Breaks Ground on StoneSprings Hospital
The new hospital will compete with Inova Loudoun Hospital, which had fought HCA's proposal for a facility in Broadlands.
Hospital Corporation of America marked a significant milestone this past week in what has been a difficult journey by breaking ground on a new hospital in the Dulles South area.
Standing on the grassy airstrip of Glasscock Airfield where a small farm plane has often been spotted in the back, HCA representatives gathered with county officials Wednesday afternoon for a ceremony.
StoneSprings Hospital Center, at Route 50 and Gum Spring Road, is across Route 659 from the existing StoneSprings urgent care facility HCA built and will include 124 beds.

HCA, after obtaining permission from the state to move beds from inside the Capital Beltway, has long sought a location in Loudoun County, first eyeing a parcel next to the Loudoun County Public Schools Administration Building in Ashburn. After failing to persuade two boards of supervisors to permit construction on that site in Broadlands, the company moved its plans to the Route 50 corridor, as both boards has urged.
StoneSprings is expected to open in December 2015.
