Controversial Palo Alto Egg Sculpture Going To Harvard

Artist Adriana Varella said some in the city did not want the sculpture, "Digital DNA" in the Palo Alto plaza.

PALO ALTO, CA — A technology-themed sculpture was scheduled to be removed Thursday morning from Palo Alto's main plaza, an allegedly controversial move that will send the piece to Harvard University, the artist and supporters said.

The 7-foot tall, egg-shaped sculpture called Digital DNA was to be taken from Lytton Plaza on its way to Harvard where it will be displayed in a public square at Harvard's Business School.

Artist Adriana Varella said some in the city did not want the sculpture in the Palo Alto plaza.

A Silicon Valley entrepreneur and art collector, who wants to remain anonymous, is buying the artwork to donate to the Harvard University Museums Collection.
