Gresham Educator Named Regional Teacher Of The Year By State
Gresham-Barlow School District teacher Tina Roberts has taught high school English for the past 15 years at both Gresham and Same Barlow HS.
From Gresham-Barlow School District: The Oregon Department of Education, in partnership with the Oregon Lottery, has announced that Gresham-Barlow School District (GBSD) educator Tina Roberts is the Oregon Regional Teacher of the Year-Metro Region.
Roberts has taught high school English for 15 years and currently serves as a new teacher mentor. She has also worked as an instructional coach.
“No Matter Tina’s role in the Gresham-Barlow School District, she has consistently excelled,” said Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Teresa Ketelsen. “She has an unrelenting focus on increasing her knowledge of teaching strategies she can use to meet the needs of each student. She also shares her effective teaching methods with others.”

Roberts has taught all grades and levels of English at both Gresham and Sam Barlow High School. She has also written and developed standards-based literacy classes for English language learners, as well as reading intervention classes.
As an instructional coach she focused on instructional strategies to develop literacy across the content areas.

In her current work as a new teacher mentor, Roberts provides support to educators in their first or second year of teaching. Roberts was selected through a regional application and selection process.
Applicants submitted testimonials and letters of support from principals, superintendents and colleagues for consideration, and were assessed on leadership, instructional expertise, community involvement, understanding of educational issues, professional development and vision by a diverse panel of regional representatives.
Each Regional Teacher of the Year will receive a $500 award from the Oregon Lottery, and is automatically considered for 2019 Oregon Teacher of the Year which will be announced in September.
