A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy helped bring a new life into the world early Tuesday — and the birth was captured on his body camera.

The woman’s husband called 911 from the parking lot of a 7-Eleven just before 5:30 a.m. to report that his wife was in labor and he didn’t think they would be able to make it to the hospital, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies were dispatched to the parking lot, located at State Road 60 and Dover Road in Valrico.

In the video, Deputy Jordan Ream can be heard offering encouragement to the woman as he helped deliver her baby boy.

“Thank you, man,” the grateful father said as he shook Ream’s hand. “I really, really appreciate it. I was about to lose my mind. I’ve never — all the stuff I’ve been through in my life, I’ve never been through that.”

The mother and her newborn son were taken to an area hospital and both are doing great, the sheriff’s office said.

“Without hesitation, Deputy Ream jumped into action to assist this mother in labor,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister in the release. “While a car is hardly a place anyone would want to give birth in, Deputy Ream repeatedly reassured the new mom that she was in good hands. Immediately, his training kicked in and he was able to deliver the healthy baby while keeping mom safe too. I wish Mom, Dad, and their new baby boy all the happiness. Congratulations!”
