Fatal crash shuts down I-4 at St. Johns Bridge
Traffic troubles ensued on I-4 westbound after a deadly accident involving two tractor-trailers. The crash was reported just before 1 p.m. Wednesday in Deltona, near the St. Johns Bridge. The lanes were shut down for cleanup efforts. Troopers said one man is dead after a flatbed truck rear-ended a parked 18-wheeler. At the time of the crash, the driver of the white postal truck was parked on the shoulder at mile marker 106. Troopers said he was underneath the vehicle at the time, possibly because the truck had broken down. Troopers said the driver of the flatbed hauling marble slabs was in the left-hand lane, then, according to witnesses, suddenly veered across all lanes of traffic, smashing into the back of the semi at full speed without breaking. The accident shut down all westbound lanes in the area, backing up traffic for miles. The driver of the postal truck was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, where he is in stable condition. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.
