How to Peel a Mango in Under 10 Seconds

Mangoes are objectively one of the best fruits in the world (see you in the comments), but they can be notoriously difficult to peel, due to how slippery they are inside. Here's how to skip the mess and get rid of those pesky skins in seconds.

We've previously covered one of the safest ways of peeling a mango courtesy of Alton Brown. For the uninitiated, it involves peeling the entire mango save for a couple of circles, slicing the mango using the small circles as a grip, and shaving the last bit off when you're done. We love you, Alton Brown, but we need some delicious mango now.

This method is comparatively straightforward. Using the tip of the mango as a guide, slice the two cheeks of the mango off (as shown here), taking care to avoid the stone in the center. Then, as demonstrated in the video above, place the edge of the mango against the lip of a glass and slide it down.

Because mangoes are a soft fruit, the glass can slide through it and separate the skin relatively pain free. Then, it's super simple to slice it up, cut it into cubes, and dump into a bowl, ready to serve!

This method will still leave you with the center slice unpeeled, though the stone is a bit more spread out than a typical pit. It can be difficult to cut out the remaining fruit without hitting some snags. If you're trying to save as much as possible, peel the center slice and slice up the edges.

This is another one of those quick tips we've seen floating around the internet, and decided to try for ourselves. It's not always the most efficient use of a mango (cutting the center slice around the stone can be painstaking and this method generally avoids that), but for quickly serving a tasty treat without much mess, the glass method works best.
