A Gary man was shot and killed by Gary Police during a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
Gary Police Spokeswoman Lt. Dawn Westerfield said in a release that officers pulled over the man in the vicinity of E. 23rd St and Kentucky Avenue at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday when the shooting occurred. The man, later identified by the Lake County Coroner as Rashad Cunningham, 25, of the 300 block of Kentucky St., was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:30 a.m.
Westerfield said in the release that the incident has been turned over the Lake County Sheriff’s Police Department for further investigation and that no further details will be released at this time.

![Preparing for a large demolition project in downtown Gary, the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority is seeking help with the project. The RDA issued a Request for Qualifications this week, asking for proposals from firms or teams qualified to help the RDA with the demolition project.
