‘It just flew out of my mouth!’ Dana Perino’s mom weighs in after daughter’s uncharacteristic on-air blooper

Fox News host Dana Perino is probably never going to live this down.

As “The Five” co-hosts reported Tuesday on a video of a man in Florida chasing customers in a convenience store with an alligator, Perino committed a broadcast faux-pas.

“Oh my gosh,” she exclaimed. “What an a**hole!”

And though she immediately apologized for her uncharacteristic slip-up, the stage was set for some comical ribbing by her shocked co-hosts and fans.

“He’s terrorizing people,” Perino said as the Fox News hosts tried to stop laughing. “No honestly, that is bad, and I’m sorry I just said that, but I mean.”

She even apologized to her mother for her momentary lapse of etiquette.

Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich said she’s “never heard Dana say that before.”

And the teasing continued as “The Five” led with Perino’s gaffe on Wednesday, with Greg Gutfeld – who was not on set when it happened – delivering a mock report on Perino’s momentary lapse.

“Dana, I believe you finally have a catchphrase,” he said.

“It just flew out of my mouth. I hate to be scared by things and by pranks or things like that. But that really wasn’t even a prank,” Perino responded as her colleagues continued to tease her.

“Finally the public knows what we always knew. Dana Perino isn’t so sweet and innocent after all,” Gutfeld said in a mock serious tone.

“I am so embarrassed and I felt really bad,” she said, adding to the comedy as her embarrassed reaction to the simple slip-up sparked even more attention than the original profanity.

“Dana is my mentor. My dog saw this, and she hasn’t been the same,” co-host Jedediah Bila joked.

“The thing about this that is so amusing is that Dana is the only person on Earth that something like this could happen to you and you leave and you somehow like her more. She’s gotten more adorable,” Bila added. “One thing I love about it honestly is that sometimes people think we sit here and everything we say is planned on stage. That was a real moment. That showed me you are actually watching and reacting in the moment what you felt, which is what you pretty much do all the time, what I love about you is that you say what’s on your mind.”

Perino explained that her mother had thankfully not been watching the show but her colleagues surprised her with a call in to the show from a “guest” who wanted to weigh in.

“Hello, Dana,” Perino’s mother said on the phone line.

“Hi mom,” Perino reacted as her co-hosts broke into laughter.

“I just wanted to tell you you are not in trouble,” her mom continued. “I think you called him exactly as he was.”

Perino admitted that getting in trouble was her “biggest fear” and that she “felt so embarrassed and so mortified” after the outburst.

“I felt like I have, ever since the, my junior year of high school when I got caught trying to skip school with Tracy Schilling and I got detention and you found out. Do you want to tell America what you did to punish me?” Perino asked.

“I will. It was a great moment,” her mother replied. “I kept my mouth shut for about seven months and wrapped up, in a very nice Christmas gift, was the letter I received from the principal of the school saying my daughter had skipped school.”

“I just got coal in my stocking,” co-host Jesse Watters quipped.

“America, I apologize. Mom, I apologize. Thanks for sticking up for me,” Perino concluded.

“From now on, this is going to follow you everywhere,” Gutfeld joked.
