A West Midlands manufacturing collective has experienced a surge in orders from companies looking to re-establish production in the UK.
The Manufacturing Assembly Network (MAN), which comprises eight sub-contractors and a specialist engineering design agency, has secured orders worth more than £1.5m in recent months.
The consortium said the weakness of sterling following the Brexit vote has helped improve competitiveness, but added that the trend had started ahead of last June's referendum.
Four member companies – Alucast, Barkley Plastics, KimberMills International and Muller Holdings – have also joined forces to form a metal and plastics components cluster that will debut at Automechanika in Birmingham in June.
Larry Joyce, chairman of KimberMills International, said: "We have all worked together to deliver new products or re-establish supply so it made sense that we make a concerted effort to attract new work…especially with the ‘onshoring’ enquiries we have received in the last six months."
As well as Alucast, Barkley Plastics, KimberMills International and Muller Holdings, MAN also includes Brandauer, Grove Design, Mec Com, PP Control & Automation and SMT Developments.
